Komela Primary School New Kitchen Completed!

Komela Primary School is quite remote and should not be accessible by vehicle. I say should not be accessible because it’s hard to describe the roads leading to the school…a dirt track, full of large boulders and larger holes. But…we have driven there, very, very, slowly, and the construction materials were delivered there.

I’ve hiked to it a few times to visit the head mistress, teacher and the children and to assess the kitchen and toilet situation, and one of our volunteer teams a couple of years ago hiked there every day for a week to paint the library room. It’s a beautiful uphill hike in the forested foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro. The air couldn’t be cleaner.

I am very happy to announce that the new kitchen is now complete, along with fuel efficient new stoves, thanks to our generous donors, Rotary International. You can see in the before and after photos that the children, and the local mamas who cook, now have a cleaner and more efficient food preparation space. This is the third kitchen in primary schools that ABCD has funded!
