2016 Trip to Tanzania-The First Days

After many months of preparation, Frank, Terry, Christine and Edwina left Toronto on Feb. 9, and after two long flights via Amsterdam, arrived at Kilimanjaro International Airport at 9 PM, Feb. 10. We knew from the puddles and the humidity when we stepped off the plane that it had been raining hard. Sebastian was there to meet us and we drove the hour from the airport to our accommodations in Moshi. Despite more rain in the next couple of days we got a lot accomplished: picking up school supplies and other essentials for the children, banking, and exploring the hustle and bustle of Moshi. We also chanced upon a dance video being made on the streets!

Leaving Moshi we drove two hours up the foothills of Mount Kili to the Sekao Kilimanjaro Lodge in Nduweni village, Marangu West, our home for the next couple of weeks. A beautiful view of Mount Kilimanjaro can be seen from the rooftop. We took a couple of days to get over jet lag and the hustle of Moshi town to visit a local waterfall, sample local cuisine and coffee shops serving delicious Kilimanjaro coffee. Then it was time to get to work.
