Ontario Government Honours Lynn and Janis!

I am thrilled and honoured to report that one of our board directors, Treasurer Lynn Bird, and one of our steadfast volunteers Janis Bell were recognized recently with International Women’s Day Awards by the Ontario government!

At this prestigious event, 26 women from York Region were recognized for their efforts on behalf of the girls and women of Ontario but Lynn and Janis also want to put on the record that there are many unrecognized women in Tanzania who also demonstrate “exceptional community leadership to improve the lives of girls and women”.

Lynn was recognized for her roles within the Rotary Club of Newmarket and Big Sisters Big Brothers of York. Janis was recognized for her roles in the Rotary Club of Newmarket, Canadian Federation of University Women, and as counselor with Victim Services of York Region.

The awards ceremony was hosted by MPP Chris Ballard at the Old Town Hall in Newmarket on behalf of the province of Ontario and the Minister of the Status of Women, Honourable Harinder Malhi. The theme of the event was “Leading Women Building Communities”.

As President of ABCDreams I am sure I speak for the Board of Directors when I say that we are tremendously fortunate that these two amazing women have chosen to channel their selfless leadership abilities towards our charity’s work on behalf of girls and women in the Kilimanjaro Region of Tanzania.

Congratulations to Lynn and Janis!
