Our ABCD children live in homes with no electricity. The only light they have at night is from fires and from burning small kerosene lamps which produce unhealthy smoke and fumes. So, there’s not much chance for them to read or to do homework at night. ABCD is coordinating a Solar Light Social Enterprise project whereby a local vocational school in Tanzania is partnering with us to make solar lights out of discarded plastic water bottles in Tanzania (recycling) and discarded garden solar lights in Canada (more recycling).
We aim for this project:
- to provide reading lights for ABCD students and their local villages
- to give opportunities for vocational training students to apply their electrical training
- to encourage self-employment in students in operating this social enterprise
- to provide a source of income for the vocational school
- to provide a marginal source of income for ABCD
Please contact us if you have old garden solar lights or want to help by collecting them.
