Teresia Alex Mtuy

Teresia is a cheerful girl who dreams of becoming a secondary school teacher one day. She lives with her mother Maria, her older brother Geraldi and her younger sister Hyasinta.

This family has struggled ever since the father took his own life. The grandfather also lives with the family and looks after the family cow. Mom tries to earn some income by carrying 20 litre containers of banana beer to the local bars at 4 a.m.

Teresia is now in Form 2 at Lombeta Secondary School. Her first secondary school report rates her marks as ‘good’ and she stood at 104 out of 246 students in Form 1. Teresia drew colourful and elaborate pictures of a flower and a picture of herself going to school!
