The vision of ABCD: Art Building Children’s Dreams is a world where vulnerable children can achieve their dreams. We are a Canadian charity that raises funds to help children in rural Tanzania to stay in school and complete their education (Canadian Charitable Registration no. 84438 5021 RR0001)
When you donate to ABCD: Art Building Children’s Dreams you can dedicate your donation to a particular child, or make a non-dedicated donation to be used where most needed. We strive to ensure that every child has at least one dedicated supporter. Multiple supporters for each child are welcomed. If you dedicate your donation to a particular child you can receive as a recognition gift if you choose, and depending on the amount of the donation:
- An 11 x 17-inch “Plaked” poster of the child with a photo, story and artwork suitable for hanging (minimum $100 donation)
- An 18 x 20-inch glass-framed and matted profile of the child with photo, story and original artwork (minimum $500 donation)
Please let us know with your donation if you would like a recognition gift.
All donors will receive our annual newsletter. All dedicated donors will be sent an update about their child with our annual newsletter along with the child’s photo, story and artwork made just for them.
How much should you donate? Well, any amount will help. However it might help to know that each child has an individual education fund and we keep records of each child’s fund. The estimated cost of schooling from kindergarten to the end of secondary school is around $2500, which includes:
- $60-$80 per year for primary school (lunch: $20, uniform: $20, school supplies: $15, shoes and personal items: $20). These are approximate figures which vary slightly from school to school.
- $300-$400 per year for secondary school (including items above)
In some cases it will be more because some schools have higher fees than others and some children may need to be boarded because of distance from home or illness. Boarding fees can be $400-$500 per year. You can also read about how donations are used on the page called ‘What Donations Do’ to help guide your decision.
So, if a child’s education fund reaches the amount needed then we celebrate! But we still welcome additional support for the child’s post-secondary options, such as apprenticeship, college, university or occupational micro-loans.
When should you donate? What better time than right now! Your donation will immediately go into a child’s individual education fund and will be used directly to fund his or her education needs in the years to come.
You will receive a tax receipt for any donation over $20 minus the value of any recognition gift received.
