Here are some of our Success Stories: short anecdotes that illustrate just what your donations are accomplishing!
Last year in 2009 Abeli stood at 14 out of 49 pupils in his class! His highest marks were in Science, History and Kiswahili (Swahili language), and Sports. Abeli’s teacher reports that he is polite and cooperative. This is a quote from his teacher: “comparing with the previous days e.g. 2008, he is free and happy to share ideas with other students in the class. Also his attendance now is good”.
Adeline was in good health during 2009 and did not miss one day of school. The school reported to us that her marks are “excellent and gaining academically”…i.e. 90% in Mathematics, 88% in English, 86% in Kiswahili (Swahili language).
Despite missing 32 days of school due to malaria in 2009, Airini received a very good report. She received a 72% in Geography, 88% in Science, 80% in Kiswahili (Swahili language) and 76% in Citizenship! This is a quote from Airini’s teacher: ” the child is smart, caring and very friendly”.
Amedeusi achieved in 2009 overall average marks improved over 2008, and an 85% in Kiswahili (Swahili language). This is a quote from his teacher: “he cooperates well with his classmates to discuss different lessons in the class”. He is visibily happier and more outgoing.
Arini did not miss a day of school in 2009 despite having some fevers. Her mid term marks were very weak but by the end of the year she had improved. She earned 71% in Mathematics, 70% in Science and 86% in Civics. Arini looked very happy.
Audifasi did very well in his last year of primary school to be accepted at M’langa Secondary School which is a well respected school. This effort was recognized by ABCD at our first Awards Ceremony which we held on our 2010 visit.
Christina is attending Kichilioni Primary School where she is in Grade 3 and her marks are improving. Her teacher says: “she is improving…has good behaviour…I advise you to send her for further education after completed primary level”.
Emanuel is now attending Lombeta Secondary School for his first year in Form 1. His report card from his primary school last year was very good. This earned him an electronic calculator as an award at the first-ever ABCD Awards Ceremony which was held on our 2010 visit. His attendance was perfect and he achieved an A in Science and a B in General Knowledge!
Geraldi has successfully completed primary school and has started at Lombeta Secondary School where he is in Form 1. He received a very good report for his last year of primary school receiving a B in Maths, B in Science and B in General Knowledge. This earned him an award of a scientific calculator at our 2010 Art Day Awards Ceremony.
Honest Peter is attending Uomboni Secondary School and is now in Form 3. Last year his highest marks were 73% in Physics and 61% in Chemistry. His teacher reports ” he is making tremendous progress in class. His attendance is also very good”. Honest Peter’s English is improving greatly and he was very helpful to us with translation during interviews at our 2010 Art Day.
Hyasinta is now attending Lombeta Secondary School in Form 1 after doing well in her last year of primary school. Her report is good, with a B’s in Science, Swahili Language and General Knowledge. Her teacher reports that she is improving and that she loves Art. Hyasinta was thrilled to be awarded a scientific calculator at our first Art Day Award Ceremony for the good schoolwork.
Joseph is attending Kilaremo Primary School in Grade 5. We received a very good report from the school about Joseph’s progress. He had perfect attendance last year, and received a 90% in General Knowledge, 78% in Religion, 72% in Maths and 70% in Science! The teacher said, “He is proceeding well in achievement, attendance and behaviour”. Due to these school results Joseph was presented with a Swahili/English dictionary at our first ABCD Art Day Awards Ceremony and had a beaming smile.
Josphat has changed schools and is now attending Lombeta Secondary School where he is in Form 2. In Form 1 he excelled! He stood at 22 out of 263 students in his Form! His favourite subjects are Civics and Geography. Josphat is a happy boy with a big smile.
Despite missing 12 days of school possibly due to malaria, Lusia did very well in her last year at primary school and is now attending Lombeta Secondary School in Form 1. Her school reports for 2009 state that she stood 12 out of 86 students in her grade! Her marks in General Knowledge and Religion were in the 70′s. This is a quote from the teacher’s report “there were a great changes between last year and this year, this year there was a good achievement in attendance and behaviour”. Lusia was excited to receive an award in the ABCD Art Day Awards Ceremony.
When Magreth came to the Art Day she was dressed very well and had her hair braided beautifully. 2010 will be her last year of training as a seamstress, and we told Magreth that if she works hard we would buy her a sewing machine of her own. This brought her to tears.
Oscar’s health was good last year. He has completed primary school and is now attending M’langa Secondary School where he is in Form 1. His marks in his last year of primary school were very good which is an improvement over the previous year. He received B’s in all of his subjects and his favourite subjects are English and Art. Oscar was very proud to receive an electronic calculator at the ABCD Art Day Awards Ceremony for his achievement in school.
Oskar is attending Kitowo Primary School in Grade 3. The report, which we received from the school for last year, says he is improving and he received a B in Swahili Language and C’s in all his other subjects. Oskar was smiling and laughing a lot at Art Day.
Robati is attending Kyala Primary School for his last year in Grade 7. We see on the school report that last year in Grade 6, Robati came second in his class in Religion where he earned an A! He also earned a B in General Knowledge and a C in Science. His teacher says, “There is great changes between last year and this year. This year there is a good achievement in school attendance and behaviour”.
Rose had perfect attendance last year and her marks were very good: 76% in Science, 80% in Swahili language, and 95% in Religion! For this effort Rose received a Swahili/English dictionary as an award at the ABCD Art Day Awards Ceremony. She was delighted! Rose is a happy little girl.
Scola is finishing her final year at Samanga Vocational Training Centre. Last year she did very well coming third out of 13 students in her class. For this effort she was given an electric iron as an award at the ABCD Art Day Awards Ceremony!
Tumaini is a very bright boy. He is in Grade 7 at Kilaremo Primary School. Tumaini’s attendance is perfect and his school report says his marks are excellent: Maths 82%, English 82%, Science 78%, Swahili Language 92%, General Knowledge 84%, Religion 88%. These are wonderful marks! He came second in his class of 35. For this effort Tumaini received an electronic calculator as an award at the ABCD Art Day Awards Ceremony.
Yasinta is attending Kisuluni Primary School in Grade 2. Last year in Grade 1 her teacher reported that her marks were average but she did earn a 70% in science and 79% in Art and 82% in Swahili language. For her efforts Yasinta was awarded an English/Swahili dictionary at the ABCD Art Day Awards Celebration. She is notably happier this year.
